According to Tamura and Ohsumi (2000), the total annual prey consumption by cetaceans in the world is estimated to be 249-436 million tons, representing three to six times the amount taken in marine fisheries. The Marine Mammal Commission held a technical workshop on April 13-16, 2004, to explore issues related to the vulnerability of beaked whales to anthropogenic sound. Abstract On April 06, 2002, a young female Minke whale (Balaenoptera acutorostrata) - 3.97m in length - stranded in Normandy (France). Stomach content analysis revealed a significant quantity (22 pieces) of man-made rubbish, mostly plastic bags from stores, garbage, etc., completely obstructing the digestive system.
